Animal Ethics & Institutional Approval Policy

The Journal of Meat Science (JMS) requires all research involving animals to comply with recognized ethical and welfare standards.

1. Ethical Approval Requirement

All manuscripts involving animal experiments must include:

  • Name of the approving ethics committee (e.g., IAEC/CPCSEA or equivalent)

  • Approval number

  • Approval date

  • Statement of compliance with national/international guidelines

Required Statement Format

“All animal procedures were approved by the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (Approval No: ___, Date: ___) and conducted in accordance with national and international guidelines for animal welfare.”

2. International Standards

Research must comply with:

  • CPCSEA (India) guidelines

  • ARRIVE Guidelines

  • OIE Animal Welfare Standards

  • Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) standards where applicable

3. Animal Welfare Considerations

Authors must ensure:

  • Humane care and housing

  • Minimization of pain, stress, or harm

  • Use of anesthesia and analgesia when appropriate

  • Ethical justification for animal use

  • Appropriate euthanasia protocols

4. Non-Compliance

Manuscripts that fail to meet animal ethics requirements will be:

  • Rejected without review

  • Retracted if published with undisclosed violations
